REST DAY!
Nice work this week! The intensity was way up and the efforts were withering. But, everyone held in there and did great. More fun is around the corner!
Speaking of doing great, many of you know Elizabeth Z. from the afternoon classes. However, some of you may have noticed she has been absent for the past few weeks. Well, Elizabeth has been on a month of outdoor adventures, topping it off with a climb to the top of Mt. Whitney! Here is the email we got from her when she got back:
"This note is to let you know that I accomplished my goal of hiking up and down Mt. Whitney in one day!
16 hours to be exact: I left the trailhead (Whitney Portal) at 2:45 am, and made the summit at 10:45 am. I was back down the mountain by 6:30 pm. That adds up to a 22-mile round trip, 6000' up and 6000' down. Long amazing day: I began hiking by the light to the full moon, got to watch the sunrise over the White mountains, and was in awe of 360* views of peaks and lakes. Climbing over the ridge at Trail Crest to see Sequoia & Kings Canyon laid out below me is a vision I won't soon forget.
None of this would have been possible without CFC. Not only did you get me started on the road to getting fit, but you encouraged the setting of specific training goals as well as accountability to those goals. For the past few months, every grueling session at CFC and every training hike, I was reminded of what I wrote up on the board. That mountain wasn't going to climb itself! I couldn't have done it without you.
Just a day later, I'm only mildly stiff and sore -to my great surprise- and can't wait to get back to the box!"
